Maybe starting with the discussion questions wasn't the best plan. Maybe we should just ease into this more slowly......
When reading the first chapter of Genesis to Jesus, what did you learn that you didn't know before?
Did anything surprise you?
What are you hoping to gain from doing this Bible study and any future Bible studies we might have?
When you hear about covenants, what do you think?
Do you think the Emmaus Road story from the Bible helps explain how Scripture should make "our hearts burn within us"?
Feel free to answer whichever questions you feel comfortable answering! We are all learning together and I don't think anyone should be worried about what they say. This is a safe place! I know that I am NOT a Scripture scholar and I am assuming on one else is either! Let's just have fun with this and learn a lot!
Just a couple quick thoughts some of your questions. Learning through the Scripture, Tradition, and Magisterium is new to me. I came from a church that rejected Tradition and the Magisterium (it was somewhat anti-Catholic, too) and held that a person could read the Bible on their own and come to Truth. Now, I look back and see why there were so many divisive arguments within the fellowship when people were taking verses out of context and applying their own interpretations to them.
The teaching on the power of God's Word in Mass and the Sacraments was new but very helpful to me as well.
I read this by Pope Benedict XVI and found it helpful with this lesson, too.
